Decade Defector is the brainchild of my friend Nate VanBuskirk. An engineer by trade, Nate took an interest in synthwave music after watching the movie Drive. He went out and bought a synthesizer the next day! A few years later he was writing and recording the Renegade EP. He asked me to do some vocal tracks for the project, and then I came on board as a full-time member (vocals and co-producer) in September of 2017! Nate writes and records the music using vintage gear and vintage-emulation software and I write and record all the vocals. I do a little co-production, but Nate is really the man behind the music!
We released The Renegade EP in September of 2017—a collection of all original music, five songs in total.
In October 2017 we recorded, mixed, mastered, and released the Dead Man’s Rhodes EP—a special four-cover Halloween tribute to Dead Man’s Bones, Zach Shields and Ryan Gosling’s spooky doo-wop band and album of the same name.
